Tripura is a state located in North Eastern part of India. It is bordered by Bangladesh to the north, south, and west, and the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east.
The word Tripura originated from Tripura Sundari. She is the deity of the land and Tripura is regarded as one of the renowned Shakti Peethas, among the 51 Shakti Peeth, for this deity.
Agartala is the capital and the largest city of Tripura. Other major cities in the state include – Badharghat, Dharmanagar, Jogendranagar, Kailashahar, Pratapgarh, Teliamura, Udaipur, etc.
Bengali and Kokborok are the official languages of the state.
Diwali Celebrations in Tripura :
In Tripura around 85 percent people are Hindu’s. Hence Diwali is celebrated in a grand manner in the state.
In Tripura, Diwali is celebrated for a period of five days.
Just like in other parts of the country, people of Tripura celebrate Diwali by drawing colourful Rangoli’s outside their homes to welcome goddess of wealth – Lakshmi, wear new clothes, eat lots of sweets, exchange gifts, wear new clothes, decorate their homes with lights and diya’s, spent time with friends and family members, etc.
In Tripura on the Diwali Day goddess Kali is also worshipped.
The Diwali celebrations in the state are grand in places like Udaipur and Matabari which is also known for the Tripura Sundari temple present there. Here during Diwali, a massive fair is set up by people to exhibit their local talents.
