Mizoram is a state located in the North Eastern part of India. It is bordered by Assam and Manipur in the north, Tripura in the west, Burma (Myanmar) in the east and Bangladesh in the south.
Aizawl is the capital and the largest city of Mizoram. Other major cities in Mizoram include – Lunglei, Champhai, Mamit, etc.
Around 87 % of population of Mizoram is Christian. It is followed by Buddhist who account for 8 percent of population while the state has only 3.5% Hindus. Hence Diwali is not a major festival of the state.
Diwali Celebrations in Mizoram :
In Mizoram government has banned on using of fireworks and crackers. Hence during Diwali celebrations they are absent. However, the tradition of lighting up the houses with diya’s, candles and lights is present.
Just like in other parts of the country, people of Mizoram clean and decorate their houses of the festival of Diwali. The temples, temple yards, houses, shops and public places are illuminated with divas, candles and electric lights to welcome goddess Lakshmi.
On the Diwali day people worship goddess Lakshmi.
